About Me

Have Tutor Will Teach was formed in April, 2000; to meet the needs of students in the Tri-County area, Digby, Shelburne, and Yarmouth.  I am located at 4217 Hwy. 340 in Carleton.  I have provided services for Family and Children’s Services in Yarmouth, Tri-County Regional School Board, Mi’K Maq Family and Children’s Services, Yacro in Yarmouth, Worker’s Compensation, Crawford Healthcare, English as a Second Language in Port Maitland Consolidated School, and Family Literacy Program in Yarmouth.

My experience includes twenty-four years as a tutor, three years as a full-time high school English teacher, twenty years as a substitute teacher, and home-schooled my brain-injured son.  I have taught or tutored all subjects through grade ten, with the exception of French.  I have an Associate of Arts degree in Family Studies, Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics, and a Master’s degree in Education with a concentration in Educational Therapy and Dyslexia Therapy.  My minors are Psychology and Sociology.  I have taken courses and seminars dealing with special needs students. I am a Professionally Certified Educational Therapist through NILD Canada and a Certified Dyslexia Therapist through International Dyslexia Association.

Have Tutor Will Teach works with a wide variety of students.  I have worked with many special needs students including autistic, Asperger Syndrome, ADHD, Global Development Delay, and behaviourally challenged.  I have worked with parents and their children on dietary issues that affect learning and behaviour.  I have worked with pre-school through university students, ESL, and GED.  My typical method is to work one-on-one, but on rare occasions I work with groups of two or three. As an Educational Therapist I have worked with stroke and heart attack patients and people of all ages who have had Acquired Traumatic Brain Injuries and brain surgeries for tumours, cancer, and epilepsy. As a Certified Dyslexia Therapist I have worked with young students and older individuals for dyslexia ranging from mild to severe cases.

My fourteen-by-fourteen foot, easy-access classroom is equipped with manipulatives, educational games, hands-on-learning tools, reading books for all levels and difficulties, textbooks, and resource materials.

Most of my students come to me by referrals from current or former students and their parents.
If you have questions, or if I can be of any help, please feel free to contact me.
